Iran’s Startup Ecosystem Stands in Solidarity with the Condemnation of the Kerman Terrorist Attack

According to the Public Relations Office of the Tehran Electronic Commerce Association, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, the news cycle shifted abruptly as a tragic event unfolded. At first, no information was confirmed, and all eyes across Iran turned to Kerman. Soon, verified reports emerged, spreading shock and sorrow throughout the nation. This was only the beginning of a deep national grief—a horrific terrorist attack near the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Kerman that cast a heavy shadow over the hearts of the Iranian people.

According to official statistics, 91 individuals lost their lives and many others were injured in this brutal act of terrorism. This heinous crime once again revealed that the sworn enemies of our land spare no effort to undermine the security and peace of the Iranian people—whether through unjust sanctions or through shedding the blood of our compatriots.

This tragedy deeply saddened every Iranian and brought mourning to online businesses and startups alike.

From the earliest hours after the incident, digital entrepreneurs and startup communities expressed their grief and solidarity by sharing numerous posts and tweets across social media, offering heartfelt condolences.

A significant issue to note is the attempt by some official media outlets to create a division between startups and the general public. These outlets have sought to portray this dynamic, youthful ecosystem as a separate and distinct group, using distorted reports and misleading coverage.

It is no secret how such misinformation and distortion of facts can erode public trust in times of crisis. The images shown represent just a fraction of the support and unity displayed by online businesses and key figures within this ecosystem in response to this national tragedy. It would be better if official media conducted more thorough investigations and consulted relevant authorities before drawing conclusions or publishing misleading reports.
